Views sought on a draft Special Educational Needs and Disability Strategy for Sutton
The London Borough of Sutton is consulting on a new draft SEND strategy.
In seeking views on the new strategy, Adrian Williams, Interim Head of Education at the London Borough of Sutton writes:
Dear All
As many of you will be aware, I have been working on a review of SEND in the Borough and have written a draft strategy document upon which I would like to hear your views.
Sutton faces a number of significant challenges in the future for children and young people with SEND many of which relate to the financial sustainability of the existing system in the Borough. This is exacerbated by the fact that we have more pupils with EHC Plans than the national average, and more placed in non-maintained and independent schools, which means that our spending over head on SEND was highest in the country last year.
Whilst we all recognise the pressures on schools, parents and other stakeholders we must address these issues to ensure our arrangements are sustainable, and that we meet the needs of all children in the Borough.
The document is a draft strategy at this stage and written in a way that should provide a clear direction of travel.
You can find the document and online consultation response form via the link below. Hard copies of the response form can be requested from Olivia.Mckenna@sutton.gov.uk. The deadline for response is 29.11.17
I look forward to hearing your views and comments on the draft and to continuing discussions as this work evolves. ·
Thanks
Adrian
